Practice Positive Self-Direction

Positive self direction is the power of purpose.

Everyone has a purpose.  For some it is to get that new car or home, for others it is to get away on vacation or a special trip.  For still others it could be revenge,  getting even.  Then there are those whose goal is  just getting through the day.  As a result, they generate just enough energy and initiative to get through that day.

Regardless of your purpose, you will achieve it sooner and perhaps more easily if you take the time to write it down. Clearly defined, written goals make purpose achievable.

Your sub-conscious and your inner robot, which constantly monitor and adjust to keep you headed in the direction of your thoughts, respond inevitably to instruction.  Achievement is almost automatic when your goal becomes an inner commitment.  What you think about expands.

Many people never achieve their goals, if they set them, because they never write them down, clearly defined, with action steps to achieve their end. Their objective remains on what some have called  “Someday Isle”, the real fantasy island.  Perhaps they don’t seriously believe that their goals are achievable.

Turn imagination into reality, turn fantasy into fact, turn dreams into actual plans.  If you will do this one thing, write down your goals, it will keep you focused on where you want to be.

Like a moving plane or ship, which constantly make small adjustments in course; although your destination is still over the horizon, you will self-correct when you drift off-course and will ultimately arrive at your safe harbor.  Give yourself a game plan for your life.

The definition of success is the progressive day-by-day realization of your goals.  A goal which is ill-defined or too far out of sight will not grab hold of your subconscious guiding mechanism and much precious time will be used wandering aimlessly or, at best, in the general direction of your ultimate destination. Too much wandering, and you will run out of gas before reaching that safe harbor.  Avoid meaningless escape-oriented time-wasting activities.

If you know where you’re going and keep that destination bright before you, you’ll get there.  If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up on the path to nowhere in particular.  It’s been said that if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.  When you don’t have your own goal, it is easy to be seduced by the goals of another.

Where there is life, there is hope. Where there is hope, there are dreams.  Where there are vivid dreams, repeated, there are goals.  Your specific  goals will help you define the action steps from here to there in intricate detail.

Many people stifle their dreams believing them to be out of reach. Their self-image does not extend beyond their limited horizon. Instead of seeking ways to make their goals come true, they make lists of reasons why their dreams wouldn’t work out in the first place. These people view goal setting as a tedious waste of time.

These are the people who surrender their lives to escape from the dreams they never dreamed and the goals they never set.  Instead, they will watch others enjoying the achievement of their career goals on TV.  You’ve got to have a dream if you’re going to make a dream come true.

Since we are always moving in the direction of our currently dominant thought, whatever we are thinking of, we are always unconsciously moving towards the achievement of that thought.

Positive self-direction is setting goals which are profitable to you.  They should be specific because the subconscious acts like a homing device to achieve your dominant thought.  Like a computer,  with your subconscious guidance what you get is what you set, but it needs specific data.   Be specific in your goals.

Not “enough money”, but “$5000 per month”.   Not “thinner”, but “lose 20 pounds before next month”.  The more defined, the better the aim.

Positive self direction (planning) is the key to turning imagination into reality. The achievement of one major goal is the seed which sows many more and multiplies the open doors to success almost spontaneously.

Goal setting and achieving secrets:

1-Set short-range incremental goals.  Yard-by-yard it’s hard, inch-by-inch it’s a cinch.

2-Set lower level goals.  Goals that are easy to accomplish, which will build on the achievement of each to end up at your objective.

3-Get reinforcement.   Join a group interested in the same objective, discuss your goals and the plans to get there with others who will support and encourage you.

Rarely are these the people who are closest to you. It is ironic that the ones who love you most are the very people who will rain on your parade, not from a desire to see you fail, but most often because they don’t want you to suffer disappointment. When possible, find someone who is doing or has done what you desire. When that person is not available, find a book detailing the history of how they did it.

You don’t need to blaze a trail, you can follow in the footsteps of another who has been there before you.

4-Reward yourself. Do something to celebrate  your achievement. Dinner out, an new outfit, some kind of reward from you to you for achieving your goal.   Make it a ceremony of achievement.  This trait of  positive self-direction is developed over time with repetition and reward.

Positive Self-Esteem

Do you like yourself? Is it easy for you to accept compliments and praise from others? Do you accept yourself just as you are today? Self-esteem is the doorway to healthy high achievement and happiness.

Liking yourself as you are is not egotistical blindness to possible shortcomings. Although we are not all born with equal physical and mental attributes, we are born with the equal right to believe and expect that we deserve the best in life.

Let’s think about expectations. There are two types of expectation. One is the expectation others have for you, the other is the expectations you have for yourself. The expectations of others will be determined by how much or little they know or think they know about you. The expectations you have for yourself are firmly within your ability to change if needed or wanted.

Why is self-esteem important? Because you won’t be able to exceed your self-imposed limits. Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re correct. When you have high self-esteem, a positive image and expectation for yourself, you will attempt and succeed at a higher achievement level. Low self-esteem and low self-image means you probably won’t attempt to exceed your comfort level and when you do, you’ll have no expectation of success.

Make sense so far?

How can you tell what your level of self-esteem is? One of the easiest is to consider how you accept praise or compliments. There’s nothing false (as in false modesty) about turning aside deserved and earned praise. Do you say something like “it was nothing, anyone could have done it”? High self-esteem knows that you did do a good job and you deserve the credit. Low self-esteem dresses the part. High self-esteem presents it’s best face always. Personal grooming and appearance provide an instantaneous projection on the surface of how you feel about yourself.

Americans spend enormous sums of money each year for material goods and they can serve positive purposes. They brighten our lives. But more valuable and important is our thinking, especially our thinking about ourselves. Happiness is a habit just as brushing our teeth and washing our faces. You can acquire this habit.

It there a self-image? We know there is a mind though it’s never been seen. We can see a brain, but the mind, which thinks, hopes, fears, envisions and remembers is also real though we can’t feel or see it. Self-image also has a reality, because success is real and so is failure.

Self-image is your own conception of the sort of person you are. The product of past experience, successes and failure, humiliations and triumphs. The picture may be false, often is false, but the important fact is that you act as if it was true. Your comfort should come from the two words “as if”. The picture you hold of yourself can be changed and has been changed by others before you. You are the writer, director and the actor in this picture, and when you learn how to change the script, you’ll change the storyline and the ending. Maybe you’ll even begin to feel more kindly about the only self you’ve got.

Why is self-image so important? Because you will act like the sort of person you think you are. You simply can’t act otherwise even if you exercise all your will power. Our self-image is the foundation stone of our whole personality. As we exhibit that personality to the world, our experiences seem to verify and consequently strengthen our self-image. A man who thinks he is “unlucky” will manage to prove he is a victim of bad luck, and man who thinks he is a failure will find a way to fail no matter how much he desires success. A man (or woman) who thinks they are unattractive when complimented on one aspect, say a nice figure or pretty eyes, will tell themselves that their nose or ears are too long or that their hair is too thin. Their defensive manner will discourage further compliments and “prove” that they “really are unattractive”.

It is this so-called “objective truth” about ourselves that can be changed and when that is accomplished a new person emerges, ready to have a new life. You are never too old or too young to choose to change your self-image and create a new foundation of self-esteem.

Peoples actions always depend on what they think is true about themselves and their environment. We act as if our beliefs are valid no matter how misguided they are. Results with hypnosis prove this.

Told that water is champagne, subjects have become intoxicated. Told it is warm, they begin to perspire, physically reacting to a mental image. Under hypnosis, people accept new truths.

How about you? Your self-esteem rests on what you believe to be true about yourself. Have you hypnotized yourself with false beliefs?

You act and feel according to the image your mind holds of what things are like, which might be quite different from reality. Accept yourself realistically, as you are, with your limitation and your strengths. Have compassion for yourself, forgive yourself and do your best. If you achieve your goal, wonderful. If you don’t and you’ve done your best, heed this common-sense advise: You can do no more than your best.

Self-esteem is to accept yourself, learning to live with yourself. See yourself realistically, give yourself the respect you deserve, keep faith with yourself in spite of your faults, forgive yourself for your mistakes. You have done no less for others, you deserve the same consideration.

Many people who fail regard money and success as the same thing. Not true. Success may be associated with making money or it may not. Real wealth is a happy life. All successful people believe they deserve to be happy, that happiness is their birthright, each sunrise is the beginning of another day of successful living.

1-Select goals that are yours
2-Be sure they are realistic in terms of your talent/circumstances.
3-Visualize your goals and use your creative imagination to propel you towards them.


Choose Wisely

Choose what you think about wisely. The manifesting universe is listening.

There’s always something playing in your mind. Researchers have estimated that you engage in self-talk up to 30,000 times each day. Vow to make 15 thousand of those short talks positive encouraging thoughts. Fill your thoughts with positive until there is no room for negative.

You can only think one thought at a time. Keep your thoughts fixed. When negative events enter your day, don’t dwell on the thoughts of that event. As soon as you become aware of your negative choice, firmly choose to think two positive thoughts. Find something to appreciate. Crowd out the negative with determined conscious positive. Mantra, prayer, an affirmation, or memory of an earlier pleasant experience. When you dwell on the negative you set your faith[belief] and energy in the wrong direction.

To meditate is to think a thought over and over.

A form of negative meditation is worrying. Intentionally choosing to repeatedly think a less than positive thought. Using the attracting power of your consciousness to imagine an unwanted outcome. Worry is using your power in reverse, causing you to be anxious, fearful, negative, discouraged, stressed out.

You control what you choose to think. Choose to think of things that are positive. With your choice of thoughts you’ll change your emotion from fear to peace.

With your choice of thoughts you’ll attract more pleasure which will lead you to think more happy instead of anxious thoughts.

Your Thought Life – What you allow to play in your minds imagination will determine what kind of life you live. Thinking about a problem doesn’t make it better. The attracting power of the thoughts brings more of what you don’t want. Think about what you do want. On purpose choosing, as often as you remember, to pick a happy or at least a less-bad thought. Use the manifesting, attracting power of your creative imagination to imagine better. Think yourself happy. Think yourself into a better mood.

Repeated choice leads to habits. Habitual behavior becomes background, un-noticed. Is the background to your life happy?

If a belief is a thought you keep thinking, are you believing for better? It’s your choice. Put on a new attitude.

Create the background that feels happy most of the time. Select mantras, prayers or affirmations that will over time create the habitual belief you desire. Manifest your desires with conscious choice of thoughts you choose to repeat until they become background. Chosen self-talk works whether we believe in it or not. The subconscious believes without judgment and adjusts.

On purpose, think power thoughts. Don’t start your day in neutral. Don’t wait to see what kind of day it’s going to be, decide what kind of day it’s going to be. The way you start the day helps shape the kind of day you’ll have. Set your mind in the right direction and your life will follow your thoughts. When you start your day telling yourself that you expect good things to happen, even if you don’t believe what you’re saying, you’ve just set the tone for the rest of your day. Keep it up, you’re doing great.

You become what you believe. Choose wisely because you’re always thinking something. What’s playing in your mind? Your faith, your expectation, your belief will draw in negative if you allow it. Expel fear, doubt and worry with the on-purpose choice of a positive thought. You can only think one thought at a time.  Choose that thought wisely.

Expect the best

It’s time for you to expect the best.  Do you face each day with a positive expectation?  What do you expect for yourself today?  Tomorrow?  What did you expect yesterday?

Your answers to the questions will give you valuable insight into your future.  Why?

The powerful law of expectation states that what you get is what you set.  Your thoughts and habitual thought patterns set the foundation for how you will interpret what you will experience.  Said most simply, attitude determines altitude.

Everything which occurs in your life will be interpreted and categorized by your unconscious according to the habitual beliefs you hold.  An example of the power of expectation is provided by the centuries old practice of voodoo.  It is the belief of the subject rather than any objective reality which causes the results.

Our beliefs filter and interpret our experiences.  More than that, the power of what we believe is possible or impossible creates those same experiences.

How can we harness this powerful force, the sub- or un- conscious?  By choosing thoughts that we allow to enter our minds.  This is the practice of self-talk.

The words you use in your inner dialogue form the frame which holds your personal filtering lens.  Think of it as though you were wearing polarized glasses, used to reduce the glare caused by light entering your eyes from many different angles.

Just as polarizing lenses only allow congruent light beams to reach your eyes, filtering out all angles but the one, your subconscious inner lenses ignore any input which does not conform to it’s own perspective.  The good news is that you can adjust your inner lenses.  Put more simply: change your thoughts, change your life.

Too easy?  Not at all.  On the contrary, you will find this life changing stuff is very hard work.  Your subconscious will fight you to stay in the zone where it has become comfortable.  Change and the prospect of change makes the inner you, the one who is watching, anxious.  Constant attention to your inner dialogue is the price you will have to pay to make changes.

Some will tell you that this concept ignores reality.  That is their belief.  They would tell you that you can’t be optimistic and realistic at the same time, ignoring that while you can realistically recognize the facts in a situation, you can remain optimistic about your ability to create a solution or choose the best among alternatives.  By using your conscious power of choice, you can and do control the input into your subconscious.

You have little or no authority over the more-or-less objective reality you encounter, but you have 100% authority over what you choose to think.  Your subconscious can be re-programmed.

Your earliest programming came from your family and friends, writing on your blank slate when you were too young to resist, and may have been further influenced by peer pressure.  Subsequently you modified this programming with your attempts to interpret, understand and control your external reality.

Now you can use this same programming ability to intentionally choose your inputs.

Your ability arises from the understanding that you can only think one thought at a time.  Crowd out and replace less desirable thoughts when you find them with the action of changing your self-talk to something more positive.  When you find you can’t re-pattern your thoughts by changing the language, change the subject.  Think of something else.

Remember that your mental attitude is either the lock-on or the key-to your door to success.

Why be positive?

You don’t have to look very far to find plenty to be negative about, but why would you choose to feel bad when you could choose to feel good?  Every moment of every day that you are awake you have complete freedom to choose how you feel.

When you choose to find something in your field of reality that makes you feel good, you will observe/find/attract more awareness of other things you can feel good about.  As you observe more to feel good about, what you think about seems to expand in your reality.  Soon you see even more to feel good about.

Napoleon Hill wrote that the human being has only one thing he or she has complete control over, but that the one thing was sufficient to control all the other aspects of their life.  That one thing, he said, was the power over their choice of what to think.  He went on to write the classic manifestation manual “Think and Grow Rich”.

The principle of choosing your thoughts is basic to many spiritual disciplines, ancient and 21st century.  Despite improvements in the physical aspect of modern life, the original laws of manifestation are the same today as then.  As you believe, so it is given unto you.  You get what you set.

So, why be positive?  Number one, because you can.  Number two, because when you look for positive you see, or perhaps create, more positive.  Unlike magnetism, in manifestation Like attracts Like.
